Martin Woltermann, pharmacist
Medication adherence is a constant focus when providing pharmaceutical care to dermatology patients. I was really struck by how people don't realize that with a bit of discipline, they can resolve a significant portion of their skin problems. With additional guidance and the right product from Fagron, patients suddenly started bringing thank-you notes because they were so happy with the results. Wow, why don’t we approach this on a larger scale?! That was the sentiment within the pharmacy team at the time.
Patients suddenly started bringing thank-you notes.
Martin Woltermann reached out to Fagron and became closely involved in the development of Fagron’s first care module, Fagron Derma Care. Collaboration was sought and strengthened on various fronts. For example, he now works with general practitioners to implement the NHG guideline for eczema, and personalized skin advice is provided at the counter using various tools from Fagron. Skin patients not only receive the right product but also tips on how to use it most effectively. The FTU (Fingertip Unit) chart, for instance, has been a real eye-opener for many patients, who sometimes don’t realize they need to apply a much larger amount.
It is no longer a project but a permanent part of care. Â
By measuring data in the Pharmacy Information System with the Fagron Derma Care module, it has become evident that nearly 70% of patients with chronic skin conditions now adhere to using neutral products and pick up corticosteroids from the pharmacy less frequently. "The collaboration with Fagron on this care module was initially seen as a project, but Fagron Derma Care has now become a permanent part of care for skin conditions, including in general practice. Thanks to the positive feedback they received from patients, corticosteroids are now rarely prescribed for the skin without adding a neutral product alongside. We are very satisfied with Fagron Derma Care! Moreover, as pharmacists, we don’t have to worry about revenue: while fewer corticosteroids are being dispensed, this is offset by the daily use of neutral products," said Woltermann. Â
