About Bonasol
Bonasol (alendronate drink) is a medicine used to treat osteoporosis and reduce the risk of vertebral and hip fractures.
Osteoporosis is the medical term for porous or weak bones. Weak means weaker than average. Osteoporosis is a skeletal disease in which bone strength decreases. This is due to a decrease in bone density and a deterioration in bone structure. This makes the bone both lighter and weaker. As bone strength decreases, the risk of fractures increases.
Osteoporosis causes bones to break more quickly, especially those of the wrist and hip. The disease process of osteoporosis is similar to that of high blood pressure. Most patients are not aware of it until they experience the consequences, in this case a bone fracture.
This leads to pain, risk of disability, loss of independence and quality of life, or early death. Osteoporosis is an insidious disease.
Additional information
If you have osteoporosis, there are a number of things you can do to help you stay mobile and independent for as long as possible.
Make sure you:
- Get enough exercise.
- Eat a healthy diet with enough vitamins and minerals.
- Avoid falling: Loose carpets, loose wires, slippery floors, poor lighting, high thresholds or a couch that is too low can increase the risk of falling.
- Take your medication regularly and on time. Five years of treatment is often needed.

The importance of consistency
For example, start your treatment on Monday. This will then become your regular day to take Bonasol. Be sure to get your repeat prescription on time.
